Have you ever wondered what your life would be like if you did something different? If you had made a single different choice, where would you be right now?
In some ways, maybe life could be better. Maybe you could have done something different and prevented something from happening. Something you regret. I could have explained something important. Maybe I didn’t have to lose someone I cared about. I could have saved an important relationship in my life. Maybe I would still have my friend.
But then I wonder, maybe what happened was the best choice possible. If I hadn’t done what I did, then maybe I am better off now.
Or what if you had done something a minute, a day, a week earlier or later? How different would your life and situation would be from now? Would it be any different?
This lead me to think about time. A man-made concept, created so humans could understand time. I could go on a whole other tangent on that topic alone but I won’t. Not now at least.
For now, I’m going to assume you know what I mean. If you don’t, here is an analogy that I hope makes sense.
I sometimes think of life as a “pick a path” story. At pivotal points in your life, you will come across options. Forks in the “path”, if you will. Each path will bring you even more options and from that point on you continue to encounter obstacles, people, choices, opportunities, etc. Every choice you make will take you further on your chosen path.
And if you’ve ever heard of the “butterfly effect”, you probably get this. Another topic that I could go on forever about.
Some paths might overlap. Some might take you on a completely different route than if you had made a slightly different decision.
Unlike those “pick a path” stories, we can go back and change our minds and switch choices when we see things aren’t going our way. Again, not yet but I’m sure it’ll happen long after I’m gone.
These things make me think about how delicate life can be.
I have no clean way of wrapping this one up but what do you think about these kinds of things? Is your take on life simpler? More complex? Do you share any of my thoughts?
Until next time.
Good night, World
