All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players
– William Shakespeare
Shakespeare knew what he was talking about.
We live in a world where the performance is everything.
We live on a stage
Performing for and with the people in our lives.
Whether they’re our closest friends and family
Or the strangers and passersby that last but a moment in a single scene.
The difference is,
There is no intermission
No time to breathe.
And so we act.
We don the mask of a son or daughter
Friend, enemy, student, worker, lover, parent
And so much more.
And we paint that mask so meticulously
To convince and fool everyone
Because if we believe this character,
This façade, to camouflage our appearance
Everyone else will too.
