Ugly Romanticisms

Beauty does not lie in pain.

Not in the sting of tears from harsh words

Like the crack of a whip lashing your face

Or the bruises of unwanted change

Like a blow to the chest

Knocking the air from your lungs.

I was thrown for a loop

Unbalanced

So disorientated that to love and to hurt became synonymous with beauty

But it isn’t.

I wasn’t.

The pain in my heart

Is not beautiful.

Choking on every “I love you”

Is not beautiful.

Forcing a smile through tears

Is not beautiful.

It is not beautiful to let yourself be destroyed in the name of love.

Love can help you grow.

Pain will make you change.

Know the difference.
